[page 2] up flesh again. The air is such that you want to drink all the time and to that I lay the blame for getting back into flesh. I f I come through all right otherwise, I bet this thing adds 10 years to my life. Had a letter from Bill the other day in which he says he and Mrs H called you up. Have they taken you riding any? We are still rather scarce here yet but expect more troops soon. There is now a rumor that we will go from here to Fort Bliss (near El Paso Texas) when we do leave here I expect to take you all with me there as that will be a fine place to winter.

[page 3] Had my second shot and was very sick, had a high fever and faught several Germans in my sleep. All my Lieutenants and my top Sergent were out of business so had to sleep in my clothes as had a lot of men with fever

Lieut Forsyth is aide-de-Camp for General Donnelly, Private Foster is orderly for Major Stayton, Sergt [ms illegible: 1 wd] is color guard for Colonel Chaney. General Donnelly told Major Stayton that Capt Hedrick and your old sweetheart were two of the best prospects as Officers that he had ever seen, so guess am making good. Taps has blown and can hardly hold my eyes open so will close Kiss each other many time for me, with all the love in the universe Father
