I have a Junior Major as an assistant, which devides the work some what, though I am entirely responsible for the proper training of the Battalion. Capt Fisher (of the 110th) got in yesterday. He says Noonam has not been made a Capt nor is he coming back, at least at this time. I went to Washington Saturday in the Colonels Car and took a room at the Ebbet

[page 3] to the office, where we had a nice long chat, in the course of which he said there would be a good job with the Co, for me when I come back. Upon his finding I had engaged the room at the Hotel, he called them up and cancelled the reservation, and sent me, in an Electric Auto belonging to his Secy, to an apartment in the building shown on this letter head, which is occupied by Vice-Pres Landon (who is on the Air production board) and who is not

[page 4] in [Washington] over the week end It is an elegant apartment, being in a family hotel similar to the St Regis on Linwood Blvd in [Kansas City] and Mr Wooley insisted that I use it every time I come to Washington. He was very nice all around. In fact the attitude in Chicago and Washington is quite different from that in [Kansas City] Late Saturday night I met Mr Strange, Pres of the Strange Line in [Kansas City] and whom I became acquainted with during the old [American] Legion days, and also thank the Commercial Club, and he invited me to [breakfast]

It was at the big Willard Hotel and as a fellow guest we had a Mr Fowler, Pres of the Fowler Aero-plane factory in San Francisco, we had a charming time for about two hours after which I returned to camp in the rain. I suppose you will notice that I am making some rather profitable contacts here which may prove of worth while

[page 6] I got my pay today and will at once telegraph you the $20.00 you sent me, for which many thanks. Am still afraid to send for you as I may be detailed any day and be going somewhere else while you were coming here. If I were you, though I should feel around if I were you, looking towards renting your apartment, if that is what you are going to do, as I might you know, come through [Kansas City] on way to a new station and if I found that were true I should telegraph you when so that if you could get ready, you could join me and go on with me.
