I think I shall get your letters more quickly now as we will move in a few days to a certain place where it is expected that we shall stay for some time. You should address your letters now to 2nd Battalion, 110th Engineers, American Exp. Forces. I already have some Bosch souveniers but don

Am glad you met Mrs Newmeyer again at Excelsior Springs, hope you gave her my regards. I seems so odd to sit here reading your letter where you say it had just begun to dawn on you that we had sailed, when we have been here about six weeks. [page 4] and I will write a note telling him it is coming. It warms my heart to be assured of your loves and that you are proud of me. I hope to deserve your pride and am quite sure that you, with your Southern blood, would not have been proud had we taken the easy course and stayed out of this mess. and I hope you are right about a year house in [New York] but am afraid not, not that the war may not be over by that time, but that it will take some time to transport the troops back home and we may not be so lucky as to be picked early. however that is in the future and we may surely hope. I just got back from a trip to a big town not many miles away where I bought a new watch, my old one having gone out of business, it is a black case, Swiss movement with an alarm attachment, very nifty I also got a birthday present for you. A real Moorish brooch, hand carved gold. carved by some old Moor in Spain. also a paper cutter made in Lorraine, and at the same time got a pin for you, my little daughter. It is a silver huron, hand carved by an old French jeweler. Don

[page 6] there is no means of sending the bouquet so I shall send one or two of the flowers with the little girls message of love. The old lady with whom I am billeted keeps flowers on my table all the time I just heard that the quarters allowance is hung up again and that it will only go back to April 16-18 I wish they would get it settled one way or the other, so we could stop guessing and really know what it is to be and then get it. Write often my sweethearts, as you cannot know what a comfort your letters are. Carrie-Lou you must write often. We got ahold of some English papers yesterday and the news in them surely looked good.
