[page 3] and the little French I have aquired did me no good. I had word from the Regement the other day, it is torn all up, several officers having been transferred. Col C was here the other day to call on me. He has been transferred and is not far from me here. Major S sends his best to you two.

[page 4] of the most beautiful parts of France, though I think not so beautiful as that in the mountains where I was before coming here. Am now resuming after a wait of several days, in which several things have transpired. (some ink, this) things have been moving so fast that I have not had the heart to write and have given my whole attention to making good. Which I have done. Am now recommended for promotion. The only one in our Regiment. How does that suit you all. Will cut this short and pack for Paris and you Lots of love Ernest
