Camp Doniphan Ft Sill [Oklahoma] [January 21, 1918] My Dear Sweethearts Well! This is my first day as Adjutant and have been busy taking up the duties as such. When I get all set, am going to have lots of time to read and study. Gee! I sure wish you could be with me here now as I think could get permission to be in town most every night after school and probably come out a revelle. Many thanks for the bed slippers, Dearie, they will come in handy. My organization now consists

[page 2] of one high-grade Mayor, one Adjutant, one Sergeant Major and two drivers, one to operate a moter car and the other a motorcycle side car and both to drive horses at times. I have to look after 8 horses, two for the Major, two for myself and four for the wagon. The Colonel sent me to Lawton today to get a good map of Oklahoma which could not find in the stores, so hunted up the County Highway Engineer and talked him out of the only one he had, which was tacked up on his wall and which he tore

The Sergeant Major acts as my stenographer, and is at my services at all times though there is not much for us to do while here. When we get on the other side, and probably separated from the other Battalion. I will very probably be busy as a bee, as it will be up to me to look after all the routine of administration.
