[War Department letterhead] [December] 21 - 1918 My Dear Wife and Daughter I changed my mind sweet heart about wanting a telegram announcing your safe arrival and in my telegram to Hubert, asked him to so telegraph but if he did I have not received it. However, I have kept a close check on the news papers and have seen no indication of a wreck so feel that you did get home allright. I know you have had a very unpleasant time of it, my sweet, and am so sorry I could not be with you, but am also so glad that this trouble came after I got back from

[War Department letterhead] [page 2] The next day after you left I slept until 4 PM and the next day until 11 AM. I went into the photographers to order the pictures and found that as is usual with those coupon people, it was a graft and I told them to tear the proofs up and I should have nothing further to do with them, so shall wait until I get home to Gods country and have pictures taken there. Am sorry that it was impossible to go on with these pictures as they were good but it is impossible for me to consent to be stung if I know it is being done and feel sure we can have just as good or better ones taken in old

Got another letter from Mr Roat and they want me to come to Chicago to go over the job with more attention to detail, which shall do as soon as can get away from here.
