May [1918] Dear Wife and Daughter Am sailing this date. It is not permited to say what boat or the destination. Be of good cheer and keep a stout heart. Have placed in the mail a card issued by the Red Cross, which will tell you when I have safely arrived. Also placed telegram in the mail pouch which may be placed on the wires on our arrival. This would reach you sooner than the card and I wanted to get the word to you as soon as possible Please call Annie on the long

Cannot write the many things I should like to as this must be left unsealed and those who censor it would probably think it very silly, suffice to say that I love you both to the uttermost and await with confidence, the time when I return to you.
