McGuire, Clarence A. Collection
Major Clarence A. McGuire, from Kansas City, served at Base Hospital no. 5 during World War I. He first started his military experience at the Army Medical School and was then inducted in June of 1917. This collection focuses on the military experience of McGuire. The most notable document in the collection is a six-page account of the bombing of Base Hospital no. 5 on September 4, 1917. In this account he notes the death of the first American officer to be killed during the war, William T. Fitzsimmons.
