At Sea Dear Folks – We left on Atlantic Port [January] 14th – 12:30 on our way. This is a large transport and I am seeing the Atlantic for the first time. I am out to sea this second day and this letter probably reaches you by a return ship. Yesterday we had rough weather and [ms illegible: 1 wd]! but I was sick. Could not keep a thing on our stomach. Of course I expected to get sick, but never dreamt sea sickness was that bad. Today however I feel no ill effects. The sea is smooth and am eating heartly. Did you get the watch? I mailed it the day before I left. This letter probably gets to you directly. This morning I wrote a letter which will be held in

port until our safe arrival. I gave an address in this which is wrong. Until further notice it is 447th Depot Detachment Engineers American Expeditionary Forces. France. Our mail is so censored that I hardly know what to write. You need have no fears as we are very well protected there will be much for me to tell you when again we meet. Sincerely George All O.K.

Dear Folks – am writing this letter from the bottom of a transport, well on its way and when it reaches you, I shall have arrived safely at my destination. This letter is censored of course and therefore my conversation is limited. I am so sea-sick that I must stay in my bunk almost continually. Writing under these conditions is difficult and consequently this is a short letter. Did you get the watch which I sent? I mailed it the day before I left. I shall cable you if I can, as soon as we land. “Louis is very easy regarding partnerships on our land.” We were just told that our letters would not be stamped. Pretty good of the U. S. don’t you think. Well I must close to get this letter in and in the mean time take care of yourselves – Lovingly yours George – Address 447th [Depot Detachment] 25th Engineers American Expeditionary Forces.
