Missouri Over There

Maguolo, George J. Papers

The son of Italian immigrants, George J. Maguolo studied architecture at Washington University before entering the Army in November 1917.  Cpl. Maguolo served in France with Company A, 29th Engineers as part of the General Headquarters Staff until 1919.  As a draftsman and cartographer, Maguolo spent most of his time behind the lines.  This gave him a unique perspective on the war and his writings are filled with penetrating comments about the American Expeditionary Forces.  Maguolo resumed his studies at Washington University after the war.

This collection contains correspondence from Maguolo to his family back home and his brother, Sgt. America Maguolo, who served in the 138th Infantry, 35th Infantry Division. The collection also contains programs, brochures, photos and a sketchbook of drawings.
