Description Captain George Balckburne issued this card of identity to Dr. Esther E. Leonard for a visit she planned to make to Verdun, France. Dr. Leonard served as a contract surgeon during World War I at the U.S. Army General Hospital No. 1 in New York City and at an evacuation hospital in Vichy, France.
