IN REPLY REFER TO S.G.O. 201-Leonard, Esther E., MCG. WAR DEPARTMENT OFFICE OF THE SURGEON GENERAL WASHINGTON March 24, 1919. Dr. Esther E. Leonard, 909 South Walnut Street, Centralia, Illinois. Madam:- The Surgeon General directs me to acknowledge receipt of the typewritten copy of your contract dated May 21, 1918, and the same is being returned herewith. Kindly forward to this office at the earliest possible date, the copy of the contract which you now hold, in order that the fact of annulment may be properly noted thereon. Description C.W. Ayars sent this letter to Dr. Esther E. Leonard in regards to her contract as a surgeon in the army. Dr. Leonard served as a contract surgeon during World War I at the U.S. Army General Hospital No. 1 in New York City and at an evacuation hospital in Vichy, France.
