Headquarters 35th Division American Expeditionary Forces 12th August, 1918 From: W.V. Gallagher, Lieutenant Colonel, G.S. To: Major Joseph J. Koch, (Thru Brigade and Regimental Commander) Subject: Commendation from the Division Commander. 1. The Division Commander directs me to commend you for the thorough, painstaking and efficient work performed by you while your battalion was acting as Divisional Reserve at Kruth and Wildenstein, both with respect to the reconnaissance made and the plan of defence prepared by you for your battalion. 2. Description | Letter from Lieutenant Colonel W.V. Gallagher to Major Joseph J. Koch, commending him for his efficient work while Koch's battalion was acting as Divisional Reserve at Kruth and Wildenstein. This collection was compiled by Major Joseph Koch, a St. Louis, Missouri resident who served during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico with the First Missouri Infantry. During World War I, Major Koch was severely wounded in his left leg during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive while serving with the 35th Division, 137th Infantry. |
