My dear Major Koch:- I note your recent retirement from active service on account of physical disability and desire to commend you, on behalf of the War Department, for the faithful and loyal service you have rendered the country during both peace and war. This collection was compiled by Major Joseph Koch, a St. Louis, Missouri resident who served during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico with the First Missouri Infantry. During World War I, Major Koch was severely wounded in his left leg during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive while serving with the 35th Division, 137th Infantry. |
