Hume, John Robert Diary
John R. Hume, a surgeon who served both in the Punitive Expedition in Mexico with John J. Pershing and in World War I, wrote this diary about his experiences in France from 1917-1918. Hume described the hardships suffered by soldiers he treated and served alongside, and related several stories of men dying from exposure due to lack of proper winter supplies. Hume was wounded twice during the war and his narrative ends during his second hospital stay.
