Dec. 6, 1918 Larochette, Luxembourg My Dear Mother:- I am writing letters but I have to carry them with me for a while for we are moving so fast that the post office can not keep up with us. We have gone through Belgium and I am now nearly through Luxembourg. Just now I am in a little city called Larochette; it is in northern Luxembourg. am in here. We have been in Luxembourg for two days now. Although they have a native tongue of their own here, nearly all of them speak German and the German I learned is certainly coming in handy. There are very few, hardly any natives whom I have met that can speak English and they are all anxious to converse with an American. These last two days I have spoken more German than English We went through the southern part of Belgium. It was very pretty country

and the people were all very good to us. They are very good to us here in Luxembourg but they will not go out of ones way for you, and they are glad when you leave. I have gotten along very nicely with every family I have been billeted with on account of my German. There are many people who are very glad to see us but there is quite a difference from France and Belgium. I don’t know what it will be like in Germany and I am very anxious

to find out. We are passing through very pretty country and it has been most interesting lately. I am enclosing a souvenir which I got here in this town. This is just a “goodnight” note. We move early tomorrow morning. I received the pictures and they were certainly enjoyed. I am certainly glad to be back with my regiment again. Give my love to all. Much love to you Burnie.
