Neuerburg, Germany January 10, 1919. My Dear Grandma:- I received yesterday a letter from Aunt Clara enclosing your very generous Christmas gift. That check is certainly going to come in handy but I am going to save it until I get home. There is not much to spend money for here and I am saving as

much as I can for home consumption. We are using German money here and a little French. The German Mark has decreased in value considerably. One franc in French money used to be eighty pfennigs or four-fifths of a mark in German money, but now one franc is equal to one mark and sixty pfennigs. Marshall Foch fixes the rate.

The men were all paid in German marks yesterday. I shall certainly be glad when I can get back and see a real American dollar. I am certainly glad all of my relatives escaped the “flu” like they did. you and Aunt Clara a post-card of it a few days ago. I received a very nice little note from Mary Keck some time ago. They asked me out to see them when I came to Paris. Chances of getting to Paris don’t look so favorable just now, however. Give my love to Aunt Clara and Uncle Winthrop and any other of my relatives. Much love to you and many thanks for the Christmas remembrance - Burnham.
