Hockaday, James Kellogg Burnham Collection
1st Lt. James Kellogg Burnham Hockaday enlisted in Kansas City, Mo. on August 15, 1917, and served in Company A, 354th Infantry, 89th Infantry Division during World War I. Hockaday wrote about his experiences throughout the war to various friends and family members. His vivid correspondence describes trench life, the Battle of St. Mihiel, occupation duty in Germany and Hockaday’s observations about the people in England, France, and Germany.
