Private J.E. Henschel - American Mission - Motor Transport A.E.F. Reserve Mallet - France - January 2/1918 - Dear Mrs. Warner - Am writing to acknowledge two very pleasant remembrances - "T Lembarom" and your letter. It was mighty good of you to send them and I have certainly appreciated your doing so. It's a “fifty-fifty" proposition over here - one's self and the other fellow, so the book is now a part of the Y.M.C.A. library, where a good many of the boys will enjoy reading it as much as I have. If you were here I am sure that that is what you would wish me to do with it.

Two weeks after the "two a month" limit was placed on our letters - it was raised to four, and still later to four "blue envelopes" a month, in which as many letters as possible might be placed - about four. Hence I am able to write and thank you directly. (As I wrote all this to Mother quite a while ago - it is very probable that you know about the ruling already. The explanation is merely in the event that you do not). Two very valued friends of mine used to live at the Lyndhurst - a Miss Dora Kohl and Mr. Humphreys - who teaches at Westport. Miss Kohl is married now I believe, and Mr. Humphrey has moved - so probably I know no one but yourself there now. Still - I know that you will say "Good Morning" for me to anyone who does remember me?

Your letter was very interesting and very newsy; I fear that it will be impossible for me to answer it as I would like. Not only is there very little to tell but that little is prohibited. (An interval of several hours. Have returned from work and have ten minutes before taps). This is not much a letter; about the longest and most interesting part is the address. However - I do want you to know how much I appreciate your thinking of me and how much I have enjoyed the book. That is the most important thing anyway. I will write again and better I hope - as soon as I have the opportunity. Sincerely - J.E. Henschel.
