Henschel, James Edward Collection
James “Ned” Henschel enlisted in the Missouri National Guard on June 20, 1916, and served along the Mexican Border with Company F, 4th Missouri Infantry. After the United States entered World War I, Henschel volunteered as an ambulance driver in France for the American Field Service. However, Henschel left the country before receiving his official discharge from the National Guard. His collection is comprised of correspondence and photographs that cover a broad variety of topics related to his military service, including his controversial discharge from the Missouri National Guard.
