Description | John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. These are seven newspaper clippings about Hardesty during his time as a prisoner of war. They are as follows: “Details of Capture of Capt. Hardesty,” 1,000 Germans on Bridge Blown Up, St. Louisan Writes,” “St. Louis Officer German Prisoner at Camp Mainz” and “Capt. Hardesty Tells of Prison.” “[St.] Louisan Writes of Prison Life in Germany,” “Liet. Goodrich Now is in Prison Camp at Meintz,” and a newspaper clipping photograph, “Weekly rations for American soldiers imprisoned in Germany.” |
