ANY ADDITIONAL MEAT COUPONS TO BE ADDED HERE. 2 INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLDER. 1. The meat coupon represents a quarter of ordinary adult weekly ration. The butter, margarine, tea, sugar, lard and other coupons represent the ordinary weekly ration. 2. Any coupons attached to this card are valid only if the whole card is produced. Additional coupons may be attached to this card by Food Offices in exceptional cases. None of the coupons on this card nor any additional coupons are valid except during the seven days mentioned on the front cover. 3. If the Food Office writes the name of a retailer in any of the spaces A, B, C, F, or G, the coupons to which the space relates can only be used with the retailer named. 4 INSTRUCTIONS- (continued). 4. If the Food Office writes the name of a butcher in the space D or the name of a bacon retailer in space E, The card can be used for purchasing uncooked butcher's meat (other than pork), only from the butcher, or for purchasing uncooked bacon and ham only from that bacon retailer. Only the seller may detach the coupons. This applies also to any additional coupons which may be attached to this card. 5. All the meat coupons are valid for the purchase of a meat meal. The meat coupons marked "Other meat only" may not be used for the purchase of butcher's meat (including pork). 6. This card is not transferable; any person finding it must take it to the nearest Food Office, or drop it [in] a pillar box. PENALTIES FOR MISUSE: - [British Pound Sterling] 100 fine, or six months imprisonment, or both.

Description | John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. This was an Emergency Ration Card that was issued to Hardesty. |
