Golfers' Club, Whitehall Court, S.W.1 20 June [1920] Dear Dr. Hardesty The enclosed letter is not for me, So I return it and hope that I may be able to put you on the track of my name-sake, but no relative. There were hundreds of "Milnes" holding commission in the army during the late war many had similar initials. There were two Capt J.E. Milnes attached to the R.A.M.C. killed. Your friend may be one of these. Write to Adjutant Territorial Highland Division (R.A.M.C.) Scotland He will almost certainly know the whereabouts of the other Milne

Description | John Franklin Hardesty entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and volunteered to serve as a surgeon with the British Army during WWI. In March of 1918, he was captured by Germans in Amiens, France. Hardesty was imprisoned at Ratstatt and Villingen Prisoner of War Camps for eight months. Hardesty corresponded with the men he was imprisoned with for many years after their release from prison. In this letter, J. Glanville Milne, informed Dr. Hardesty that he was not the J. Milne that was imprisoned with him at Villingen Prisoner of War Camp. |
