Letter to Theodore Graebner - May 6, 1919

Transcript

Harrisburg, [Pennsylvania], May 6, 1919. Dear Brother,- Enclosed clipping from The Patriot, Harrisburg, [Pennsylvania], of May 5th, may be of some interest to you as it shows the position taken by the Governor of Pennsylvania with reference to a bill which was passed to forbid the teaching of German in the public and normal schools of this State. I am glad that we at least have a governor who has not lost his head. Tomorrow is the last day on which new bills may be introduced during this session of the Legislature. I feel safe in saying that it is not likely that any attempt will be made to pass legislation forbidding the use of German in private schools and churches. With fraternal greetings and best wishes, I am, Yours cordially E.H. [signature illegible] 338 L. 13th st. P.S. The [ms illegible: 2 wds] clipping is from this evenings Hdq Telegraph. It was added to show that some [Pennsylvania] idiots are [ms illegible: 1 wd] as possible as our governor. EHP
