Bourbon, [Missouri] [November, 8, 1919] Prof. Theo Graebner, St. Louis, [Missouri] My Dear Professor:- In the Lutheran Witness of [October] 28th, Who was preacher at Lutherville, [Arkansas] in [ms illegible: 2 wds] you made brief reference to the fact that one of our pastors was driven from his home at Lutherville, [Arkansas] by a few gunmen. Now it is truly deplorable that such things still occur, but at the same time we must admit that at times the victims of such violence are also at fault, at least to some extent. Description | Letter from E.L. Roschke to Professor Theodore Graebner concerning a recent article Graebner wrote for the Lutheran Witness. Roschke informed Graebner of a recent trip he had to Lutherville, Arkansas where a German pastor gave a sermon criticizing the League of Nations and President Wilson. While Roschke agrees that the rules limiting the use of the German language is wrong, he brought to Graebner's attention that in some cases he understands why people want to eliminate German. |
