[Rev. E.C. Schutt letterhead] Cape Girardeau, [Missouri September] 18, 1919. Prof. Th. Graebner, St. Louis, [Missouri] Dear Prof.,- A meeting of the pastors together with the congregational representatives of the various congregations of the county was held at Jackson today. The object or purpose of the meeting was to devise means and ways to end this mobrule which has raised its venomous head in our midst. During the discussions of the Pocahontas affair it was reported by members that mobviolence was threatened and also resorted to at Pocahontas, as is clearly shown in the enclosed newspaper report. Description Letter from reverend E.C. Schutt to Professor Theodore Graebner. Schutt stated that the pastors of the area met in Jackson, Missouri to discuss the violence surrounding German Americans and the use of the German language in schools and in church services. Schutt also expresses his dislike for the American Legion and their views of not permitting the teaching of German in schools.
