Description | Portrait photograph of Jerry B. Fenton. The Goad-Ballinger post was named after John M. Goad and Homer J. Ballinger. Lieutenant Goad was the first Greene County soldier to die in World War I. He was shot down in his airplane behind the German lines on June 27, 1918. Sergeant Ballinger of the 110th Trench Mortar Battery died on August 25, 1918 in an ammunition train accident. |
