[page 3] shall all see him again. Mother is so heartbroken over all of this, it seems that she cannot stand it, and she tries so hard to be brave, she has asked me to write you, knowing that you and brother were good friends, likely you could tell us the

[page 4] particulars of his death, if you could and will it will be such a comfort to her, also to the little wife and baby boy he leaves behind. We are so proud of you soldier lads, and we pray that God may spare you, that you can come back

[page 5] to those loved ones at home; We will miss our brother so, our home will be so lonely when you boys return, We will watch so eagerly for him, the boy we loved so well and he will not come. Surely God knows best, for he was needed so.

[page 6] He was such a brave true lad, I was and am so proud of him, somehow I feel that I cannot look the whole world in the face with a smile for he not only died for us, for his country, but for the whole world.

Faulkner of the 110th Trench Mortar Battery inquiring about the death of her brother. Homer Ballinger served with the 110th Trench Mortar Battery during the war. He also served with Company K, Second Missouri National Guard on the Mexican Border. He died on August 25, 1918 from injuries received from an overturned ammunition truck. |
