people in your county in the voluntary adherence to the policies of the United States Food Administration. (5) To assist in the distribution of bulletins, circulars, posters, instructions, etc. It is highly important that these publications be judiciously distributed in order that they may be widely read and studied. (6) To see that those who signed the food conservation pledge carry out so far as possible the regulations printed on the home card. (7) To appoint committees of women in the various parts of your county and form local organizations if needed to carry on your work in a satisfactory manner. Will you enlist in the service of the Food Administration and accept its direction and advice? By so doing you will increase the food available for our people at home, our armies and our associates; and thus render a national service to your country in its hour of greatest need. We suggest that you confer with your County Food Administrator in reference to the organization of the county and plans for the most efficient work. Description Letter from F.B. Mumford, the Federal Food Administrator for Missouri, to Mrs. Edna Gellhorn. He acknowledged her hard work with the U.S. Food Administration and appointed her Chairman of the Food Conservation Committee. Mrs. Edna Gellhorn was an active civic leader and reformer. She became a leader in the women's suffrage movement and in 1920 became a founder and first vice president of the National League of Women Voters.
