[United States Food Administration letterhead] February 6, 1918. Mrs. Geo. Gellhorn, 905 Locust St. St. Louis, [Missouri] Dear Mrs. Gellhorn: The efficiency of the work of the United States Food Administration in Missouri is, in a large measure, due to the patriotism and industry of the women of Missouri. In recognition of this fact, I desire to appoint you Chairman of the Food Conservation Committee of the Missouri Division of the United States Food Administration, for St. Louis City County. You are requested to serve as a volunteer, without pay, in the great food conservation army directed by Mr. Hoover. Your duties will be: (1) To work under the general direction of the County Food Administrator for the conservation of food and the elimination of all waste in the county. (2) To co-operate with all existing organizations, especially the Missouri Council of Defense, and all other agencies which have for their purpose conservation and elimination of waste. (3) To cooperate with the County Council of Defense and also with the State Food Chairman of the Women

Description Letter from Charlotte Kellog of the U.S. Food Administration to Mrs. Edna Gellhorn. She discussed Belgian relief and other ways women could provide relief for those in need. Mrs. Edna Gellhorn was an active civic leader and reformer. She became a leader in the women's suffrage movement and in 1920 became a founder and first vice president of the National League of Women Voters.
