This photograph depicts Ruby Garrett (left) with soldiers holding homing pigeons. The reverse of the photograph states "pigeons to carry despatches Hdqs. 2nd BA. 42nd Div. May 13/1918." Garrett, a Kansas City, Missouri lawyer, served as Chief Signal Officer in the 42nd Division during World War I.
