201-S8 WITH THE RAINBOW DIVISION IN FRANCE THE FIRST COMMANDING GENERAL of the American 42nd ("Rainbow") Division in [France] was Major General Charles T. Menoher. He headed the division until [the] latter part of the Argonne fighting, when he became commander of the [VI] Corps. He is now in America as Chief of Air Service.

This photograph of Major General Charles T. Menoher, the First Commanding General of the 42nd Division, is one of several Signal Corps photographs in a collection compiled by Ruby Garrett. Garrett, a Kanas City lawyer, served as Chief Signal Officer of the 117th Field Signal Battalion, 42nd Division, during World War I.
