To: Officers of the Medical Department Holding temporary commissions Subject: Reappointment in the Medical Reserve Corps. 1. The Department regrets very much that as officers of the Medical Department complete their duties connected with the present emergency they cannot be returned to the inactive list of the Medical Reserve Corps but in order to continue their connection with the Medical Department must be discharged and reappointed in the Reserve. It is hoped, however, that this will not prevent the building up of a large Medical Reserve Corps, including all members of the profession who have served creditably during the War. 2. 2- their orders to obey the same: PROVIDED, That officers so ordered to active service shall take the temporary rank among themselves and in their grades in the organizations to which assigned, according to the dates placing them on active service; and they me be promoted, in accordance with such rank, to vacancies in volunteer organizations or to temporary vacancies in the Regular Army thereafter occurring in the organizations or to temporary vacancies in the Regular Army thereafter occurring in the organizations in which they shall be serving: PROVIDED FURTHER, That officers of the Officers

Description | Surgeon General Ireland wrote this memorandum to the Officers of the Medical Department in reference to their status in the Medical Reserve Corps. Dr. Levi H. Fuson was in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He served with Base Hospitals 21 and 210 in France. Base hospital 21, was one of six that was selected for mobilization by the U.S. Government to support the British troops. |
