Desloge, George T. Reminiscences (1880-1935)
George T. Desloge was born into a prominent St. Louis family on November 5, 1880. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and served in the Missouri National Guard. During World War I, he commanded Company B, 810th Pioneer Infantry; an African American unit. Desloge’s original typescript describes his experiences as an instructor at the Officers Training Camp at Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Sheridan, Illinois, Camp Hancock, Georgia, and Camp Greene, North Carolina. Through his account, Desloge provides a rare look at African American soldiers and how they prepared for the war.
