[October] 11, 1918- Camp Upton [New York] Dear Mother Have been so busy the last few days that Ihavent had time or a chance to write a letter to anyone. The work has been new and rather hard for that reason. Iam mighty sorry Bill had to get Influenza in his family hope before this reaches you they will all be well - The way that has swept the country you might say the world is something awful - - glad you got the check and dont fail to use it if you need it - Iam also going to send you some more money if you need it use it if not put it to my and your credit but Ithink I told you about any money that Imight send - Have some in Silver City that you can [ms illegible: 1wd] Claud about really cant say just how much it is but something over a $1000\. Iwant that note of James paid soon and you can attend to that some day when you are down town

I’ll tell the world it has been cold here a few morning tho I did feel it as much as I did at [Fort Riley] - guess Iam getting tough - cant it explain it any other way. It is pretty near 3 oclock so Iguess I’ll have and turn in - as Iwant to get up early - Love to everybody, Jim James R Davis
