little box cars and Ihope we can stay in them and if we are ordered to the coast any time soon Iwant to go in them as it is mighty nice to have a bed roll and cot to sleep on. Ihave been reading Vanity Fair for several nights and have enjoyed every page of it. I saw it among a lot of books that we got hold of heaven only knows where and I read all the others and finally had to start on Vanity Fair for lack of anything else to read. strange that Ihad to get in the middle of no mans land before Icould settle down

Well its raining as usual I’d like to see some of this sunny France we read so much about - Ican see alright where they have a right to call her Bleeding France - but sunny - never- but perhaps Im in the wrong part of her. that chocolate was to us I think Ive been hungry for chocolate for about six weeks The box you wrote about has failed to show up - guess it will be coming in one of these days - any way it is something to look forward to but I’d lots rather have a letter sometimes I wish Icould change my name - as there are so many Davis’s that one never knows when his stuff will be mixed with some body of the same name. Once more let me ask you did you get the allotment please answer that question if you dont do anything else and answer it in very letter until I tell you to stop. 3 months allotment is due - [October] [November] [December] $216 all told it is important that I know about this for if it hasnt been paid Iwant to get it straightened out with the pay master as soon as possible. guess there isnt anything more to write that is important or of interest Hope you are all well - Iam - and if you arent let me know Love to all Jim Lt JR Davis M.S. 816 Pioneer Inf.
