Sir: In comparing S. 1871, a bill to authorize the President to increase temporarily the military establishment of the United States, with our file copy, it is noted that in Section 2, page 5, line 7, a very important provision has been omitted from your printed copy. The printed copy reads:

A copy of Section 2, corrected to include to provisions discussed above, is enclosed herewith. Description | In this letter Enoch Crowder wrote the Chairman on the Committee on Military Affairs, of the United States Senate in reference to provisos made to the Selective Service Act. The provisos concerned the age limit of those enlisted, and the transfer of enlisted men from the Regular Army and National Guard to train new soldiers. This letter is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I. |
