My dear Mr. Hoyem: It has occurred to me that you would be interested in the following situation which has developed since the issuance in May of the amendment to the Selective Service Regulations. When our Compulsory Work Law went into effect August 20th, 1917, the newspapers referred to it as the Work or Fight Law and it was popularly so dubbed. When the amendment to the Selective Service Regulations was issued in May, 1918, it was referred to by the Press as General Crowder

Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I. |
