Crowder, by the Senate, and have more splendid [m.s. illegible 1 wd] of the proffered honor a few days later. You have a [page 2] noble chief, and I can understand the admiration for him which you expressed to your uncle some time ago. May he be long spared to his country

Description In this letter from an unknown author in Joliet Illinois to a nephew, the author explained that they understood their nephew's admiration for General Enoch H. Crowder. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I.
