N.Y.C. [November] 1918 Hon. General Crowder Provost Marshall Washington D.C. Dear Sir:- Let us not stay in the war as long as we stayed out of it. There are many that would like to keep us in. There are profiteers with contract unfinished and hungry for new contracts. But the people are not in a mood to feed them.- fifty seven billion

to feel pretty sobar. The military machine will do well to sobar up also. If you are thinking of keeping up an Army after the peace declaration you would do well to have another regestration day and take all from 18 to 22 years. Mark my words your big days are over. No more of your orders. Every dog has his day. You had yours. Beware of some one else now. I hate you. You gave orders to draft married men. Some of them married men will look you up these days.

This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I. |
