Transcript

January 30, 1918. Major General E. H. Crowder, Provost Marshal General, Washington, D.C. My dear General Crowder: I wish to acknowledge with thanks the copy of your report on the first draft conducted under the Selective Service Law. I have read your report with absorbing interest. It will form a very important page in American history. I wish to congratulate you and the nation most heartily on the almost unbelievable success attained in the administration of this law. The nation was very fortunate in having in charge of this work, a man of such administrative statesmanship as yourself. Probably no law was ever administered with more justice and fairness and was received with such universal approval as this one. In Utah we are very well pleased with the operation of the law. Local officials with scarcely an exception have worked conscientously and faithfully, and I believe that here as elsewhere, the law has been economically and efficiently administered. Again congratulating you on the wonderful success of your Department, I am, Sincerely yours, Simon Bamberger Governor. Rec
