General Crowder.[page #2]. While there was no disposition to credit you to either one of the great political parties, the Democratic Senators were loudest in your praise. I thank you more than I can express of your intention to say a kind word to General Black. I am rugged and strong and feel mentally at my best and capable of rendering active service to my country if given an opportunity. Every attempt that I have made, it seems that my age is the barrier. Make a note of your promise to pay us a visit and make it as soon as possible. With kindest regards, I am Your truly, Hiram Phillips
