Letter to General Enoch H. Crowder from Graham Taylor - February 2, 1918

Transcript

February 2, 1918. Provost Marshal General Crowder, Washington, D.C. Dear Sir: You may be interested, as I know Major Wigmore will be, in this summary of your report, to which I have devoted my weekly editorial columns in the Chicago Daily News of Saturday, February 2. As chairman of one of the largest, most cosmopolitan and polyglot divisions in Chicago, I have been greatly impressed with the spirit pervading this report not only, but all the instructions received from your office. By the considerateness thus shown and impressed upon the local boards, you have prompted and imparted that human touch which has contributed so much not only to the efficiency of the very exacting work, but also to the still more wonderful loyalty with which the registrants and the whole people have cooperated in the selective service. Anticipating still further-reaching results from the pending occupational classification, and assuring you of the continued and hearty cooperation of this Board, its small paid staff and its larger group of devoted and very capable volunteer co-workers, I am Truly yours, Graham Taylor Rec
