Dear General Crowder, I want to thank you for having sent me the beautifully bound copy of your report to the Secretary of War, with my name on same. I have placed it on my desk and who it to all who come in, and tell them it is the work of our great Missouri soldier and former fellow citizen. We are all proud of you back here. Description In this letter, the Governor of Missouri, Frederick D. Gardner, thanked Provost Marshal General Enoch H. Crowder for his bound copy of the report to the Secretary of War. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I.
