Letter to General Enoch H. Crowder from Frank O. Lowden - July 19, 1918
Transcript
Oregon, Illinois, July 19, 1918. Personal My dear General Crowder:- I am just in receipt of your letter of July 15th. After I sent you my congratulations, I learned of your very patriotic and unselfish action in the matter of your advancement in grade. I think you did exactly right. Noman is remembered long for the titles he has held, but only for what he has done. I do not care what laurels our generals may win on the battle-fronts, yours, in my opinion, will remain the outstanding achievement of the war. I feel more hopeful now that I ever have that the Selective Service Law will result in our adopting a permanent policy of Universal Military Training. You, of course, therefore, will be intimately related to all our future. I thank you for your interest in the Prairie Division. I am very hopeful that this Division will distinguish itself before the war is over. With warmest personal regards and admiration, I am, Always, Sincerely yours, Frank O. Lowden Major General E. H. Crowder, War Department, Washington, D.C. P.S. Since writing the above I see in the papers that you are going to the Line. If this be true, I suppose it is as you wish, and I wish you all good luck. What I have said above, however, still stands.
