August 19th, 1918. General Marshall Crowder, War Department, Washington, D.C., My Dear General;- I am taking the pleasure, in notifying you, about a slacker the name is Mr. Francis Moriarity. #153-43rd st., Lawerenceville, Pittsburgh, [Pennsylvania]. Now this fellow, has been married, for sometime, and buried his only child, not so long ago, and he is in the best of health, and always held a good position. The last call for the boys in that district, has been call over a month ago, and he was suppose to go, but it seems some how or other he got out of it, on the account of his, Father, having a pull through political affairs, and being a middle man for Prichard, the head of the police department, in order to keep him out of the draft Prichard sends him to Greensburgh, [Pennsylvania], at some Amminition Plant, and now he is employed at the Public Safety Bldg, he isn

The author wanted Crowder to look into the matter and draft Mr. Francis Moriarity. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I. |
