My dear General:- In the stress of your work, permit me just to drop you a line to express my admiration and appreciation of the way you are handling the difficult tasks that devolve upon you, and of my desire to carry out your plans and cooperate with you. Description In this letter Rich I. Manning, Governor of South Carolina, expressed his admiration and appreciation for General Crowder's work. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I.
