United States Senate, Washington, D.C. August 18, 1917. My dear General: In the preliminary of our war preparations and the discouraging situation in some branches of the Government service, it is exceedingly pleasant to note your successful and efficient Administration of the Draft Law. I have followed your various suggestions and the general principles which you have applied with a great deal of satisfaction, and take this means of congratulating you. Description In this letter, Miles Poindexter, a Senator from Washington, wrote General Enoch Crowder and congratulated him on the successful Administration of the Draft Law. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I.
