Dear General: Please accept my hearty thanks for your telegram stating that you have recommended Neal Power to the Secretary of War. You have done me a great favor and have recommended a splendid man for the service. He is a man of pleasing personality and of great influence for right ideas among a certain section of the people here. I felicitate you upon the distinction you have gained in connection with the Selective Service Law. You have become one of the prominent national figures, and as you deserve it, I rejoice in it. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General. Crowder devised the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I. |
