Description In this letter to Berry, H.E. Widener attached a newspaper clipping entitled "Will let this man fight with his hands." The article stated that an African American man claimed to have Sydenham's chorea, known as St. Vitus Dance, in his feet and therefore should be exempted from the draft. This document is part of a collection compiled by Enoch Herbert Crowder, the Edinburg, Grundy County, Missouri native who served as Judge Advocate General devising the Selective Service Act in 1917 which drafted America's forces during World War I.
